Woven Worlds: Basketry from the Clark Field Collection at The Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa Oklahoma
Mint Museum of Craft + Design
September 9, 2006 - February 27, 2007
The tapestry of Native American cultures has been woven into their remarkable basketry for centuries. This landmark exhibition explores the cultural and geographic diversity among Native Americans with over 125 baskets selected from The Philbrook Museum’s world-renowned Clark Field Collection. These baskets were created during the late nineteenth century to the 1960s, and range in size from nine-sixteenths of an inch in diameter to over five feet in height. The collection honors seventy-three tribal groups from the United States, Canada and northern Mexico, and weaves together the relationship between the artists and the collector, Clark Field.
