Murano: Glass from The Olnick Spanu Collection
Mint Museum of Craft + Design
April 2, 2005 - August 21, 2005
Murano, an island near Venice, Italy, has been a glassmaking center for hundreds of years. Originally, glassblowing factories were moved from Venice to Murano to protect the city from fires, but as glassblowers became more skilled, it also helped protect the artists’ secret techniques. Today, Murano has become known worldwide for its beautifully designed glass. Murano: Glass from The Olnick Spanu Collection will showcase nearly 300 examples of glass from the past 100 years.
